Everyone should give counselling a try, it's a sign of strength not weakness to have therapy"
Rachel has counselled me for a year and gradually - step by step, one concept or activity at a time - has helped me discover ways of controlling my anxieties.
For instance, I've learnt that our thoughts can govern our mood, yet there are ways to banish negative ideas and reactions. Rachel has shown me how to meditate and given me visual, paper-and-pen methods, to nail vague and nebulous hopes and fears.
Rachel is not an agony aunt, someone who dispenses advice and cut-and-paste or template solutions. Instead, her counselling enables a guided process of self-discovery.
For me, that means a few sessions have been emotionally exhausting. Other sessions have been goal-focused. Either way, each time, I feel a little wiser for the effort.
I can, and have, recommended Rachel's counselling."
This was my reality. This shaped the adult I am. I'm forty four years of age and I've had massive self esteem problems... I struggled to get on public transport due to anxiety. In fact, I've locked myself away, drank myself to oblivion and tried to drive myself mad with a hope that I wouldn't ever have to face reality again.
I've attempted suicide on more than one occasion. Something I'm obviously not good at.
I've been fortunate to have crossed paths with Rachel. She helped me understand what I'd been through and how I was affected by it. She helped me accept myself, which is a massive thing I promise you.
I can't recommend this service enough. To put it plainly this is a healer.
I would like to say a huge thank you for helping me put my mind at rest and provide me with the tools to look at life in a whole new light. My confidence is now on a new level and I am truly happy with me and any road I choose to take.
She felt like she was suffocating.
We worked together to help her through this time of crisis. Through the counselling she was able to view her parents as adults able to make their own, albeit difficult, decisions. This allowed her to concentrate on her life and as well as build new relationships with them as an adult. She’s successfully moved on.
He felt a failure.
Our work together took us to his early years where a traumatic event had left him feeling unable to make effective choices and that he was responsible for everyone around him.
We worked together to bring understanding that he didn’t have to take responsibility for everyone around him and how to make empowered decisions. This allowed him to significantly reduce his stress and move on.
He felt extremely stressed.
Our work together allowed him to identify that his home life was the primary cause of his stress. This allowed him to very quickly get back on top of things and regain control of his work life.
She hated herself.
We urgently agreed safety levels between us, in order to establish the level of risk that TS was to herself and agreed who else she could go to if in a crisis.
Using words and pictures, collages and montages, for when talking was a struggle, we worked together to understand how her thoughts and beliefs about herself were creating these negative feelings.
This allowed her to change the negative inner voice, stop herself harming and move on.
Rachel is professional, personable and most importantly was very effective in helping me with my counselling needs. Her approach was perfect in helping me to make sense of my feeling and thoughts, which I was struggling with at the time. I couldn’t recommend her services anymore highly
